Mark Hubbard was born and raised in Hawai`i and has been a resident of Kaua`i for past 42 years.
Married for 48 years, he and his wife Barbara have three sons and four grandchildren. A retired consultant in the field of Human Resources and property management, Mark has worked for the U.S. Navy, Amfac Sugar-Hawai`i, and Grove Farm Company, Inc.
Mark has a BA in biology from Stanford University and an MBA from the University of Hawaii. Mark volunteers with many nonprofit and community groups such as Malama Huleia, Friends of the Kalalau Trail, Rotary, Kaua`i Community College, Puako Homeowners’ Association, Blood Bank of Hawai`i, Lawai International Center, Kaua`i Hospice, Friends of the Children’s Advocacy Center of Kaua`i, as well as Kaua`i Planning & Action Alliance. Mark is currently the co-chair of Keiki to Career Kaua`i.
LaVerne Bishop, Vice Chair
Hale `Opio (retired)
LaVerne Bishop worked in the youth development field with Hale `Opio Kaua`i for over forty years and represented Kaua`i’s non-profits on state and national boards and initiatives. LaVerne is a founding member of Keiki to Career Kaua`i and continues to serve on its Leadership Council. An avid reader, gardener, hiker and ocean kayaker, LaVerne also serves on the board of Malama Hule`ia.
Karissa Jonas, Treasurer
Kaua`i Island Utility Cooperative (KIUC)
Karissa Jonas is the Financial Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Kaua`i Island Utility Cooperative. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Arizona, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree by completing two majors, Accounting and Finance. Karissa is a licensed Certified Public Accountant, having worked for Ernst & Young, LLP as an auditor. In addition, Karissa is a Chartered Global Management Accountant. Karissa and her husband Paul moved to Kaua`i in February 2003 from the San Francisco Bay Area and reside in Koloa. They have a son, Coleman, and a daughter, Sierra, who are both teenagers. Karissa has been a hula haumana with Ka Waikahe Lani Malie halau, under Kumu La`amea Almeida, since March 2009 and the halau’s Treasurer since June 2012. She served as PTSA Treasurer for Kalaheo Elementary School for two years and helped with the Drama Club productions for three years.
Janet Berreman
Kaua`i District Health Officer
Janet Berreman is currently the District Health Officer for the Department of Health here on Kaua’i. Dr. Berreman is originally from California where she attended Pomona College and received her medical education at the University of California, San Francisco. A pediatrician by training, Dr. Berreman practiced primary care pediatrics in American Samoa and at the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center on Oahu. She returned to school for a Master’s in Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley and served as the City of Berkeley’s Health Officer for 10 years before returning to Hawaii in 2017. She is excited to bring her clinical and public health experiences together in her position as Kaua’i District Health Officer.
Janet and her husband, David Kennard, have two adult daughters who live on the mainland and visit as often as they can. Janet and David enjoy running (slowly), hiking, reading, traveling, and working in their yard. They live in Kapa’a.
Gilbert Peter Kea
Royal Order of Kamehameha I, Chapter 3
Peter is involved in a number of community projects. Presently, he serves on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Resource Conservation and Development Councils and is the Vice President of Garden Island Resource Conservation and Development, Inc. He is an Ali`i and Kakaolelo of the Royal Order of Kamehameha I, Chapter 3, “Kaumuali`i”. He is a founding member of KPAA and has served as a member of its Board of Directors since 2003.
Wanda Kau-Shibata
Advantage Webco Dodge Hawai`i
A long-time resident of Kapa`a, Wanda served as Governor Abercrombie’s Representative on Kaua`i during his term. She is the Kaua`i Sales Representative for Distribution & Brokerage for Advantage Webco Dodge Hawai`i. She is active in the community and currently she serves as a board member of Big Brothers, Big Sisters-Kaua`i and Kaua`i Housing Development Corporation-Low Income/Middle Income Housing. She is a community advisory board member for Young Brothers/Hawai`i Tug & Barge, American Cancer Society and KIDS School. She is a member of the Kaua`i Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce, Kaua`i Filipino Chamber of Commerce, Kaua`i Chamber of Commerce, Lihu`e Business Association and Hui Alu Okinawan Club.
Eric Nordmeier
Hawaii Dept. of Labor and Industrial Relations (Retired)
Eric has a long career history of workforce development, retiring from the State of Hawai‘i Work Force Development Division as their Kaua`i Branch Manager in 2016. Previously, Eric was the Disabled Veterans Program Counselor and served in the United States Air Force. Eric is active in the community, including the West Kaua`i Lions, the District 50 Lions, West Kauai Business and Professional Association and the Kaua`i Historical Society.
